SOUTH AFRICA BRODERICK

$18,500.00

Isandlwana casualty medal to Pte. Jeremiah Broderick, 1st / 24th Foot.

South Africa 1877-79, clasp, 1879 officially named to: 718 Pte. J. Broderick, 1/24th Foot. Extremely fine.

Jeremiah Broderick enlisted at Newport, Monmouthshire, on 13 January 1876, just three days after 716 Robert Jones who went on to win the Victoria Cross at Rorke’s Drift. Broderick was posted to the 1st Battalion and was killed in action at Isandhlwana. The South Africa Medal Roll records him as entitled to the clasp dated ‘1877-8-9’, however, the medal was issued in error with the ‘1879’ clasp. Ex Norman Holme collection.
