Norman Victor Cliff was born in Toronto October 22nd 1893. He volunteered for service with the 3rd Battalion on September 22nd 1914.

Cliff was wounded in action with a gun shot wound to the right hip on 24th May 1915 and was discharged medically unfit on the 12th August 1915. Not content with sitting out the rest of the War, he re-enlisted as an officer in the 3rd Battalion on the 17th April 1916 and was taken on strength 28th October 1916.

Cliff was awarded the Military Cross on the occasion of His Majesty’s Birthday 6/3/1918.

The Bar to the Military cross was awarded for conspicuous gallantry and leadership. He led his company in an attack until the final objective was reached, when he pushed forward 1000 yards, and secured some high ground which dominated the position his battalion was taking up. On the following day he established an outpost line, and pushing out patrols, captured one machine gun and eighteen prisoners.

Captain Cliff was killed in action on August 30th 1918.
